As an active member of the May 1st Coalition, GABRIELA New York works with other immigrant groups in the city toward legalization for all and genuine immigration reform.
BAYANIHAN RELIEF EFFORTS GABRIELA
New York has been active in raising New Yorkers’ awareness of man-made and natural disasters that have caused severe devestation in the Philippines, including Typhoon Pablo and Typhoon Haiyan, both of which have claimed thousands of lives. Our communities nationwide formed TASKFORCE HAIYAN to streamline typhoon support efforts. GABRIELA New York helped build the TASKFORCE and led fundraising activities for typhoon survivors, raising thousands of dollars for Lingap GABRIELA and BALSA. When New York was hit by Hurricane Sandy, GABRIELA New York initiated door-to -door surveys, gathering information in response to the needs of the affected communities.
ONE BILLION RISING
From the creator of Vagina Monologues Eve Ensler, One Billion Rising (OBR) began as part of the Vday Movement. GABRIELA New York has been active in planning and participating since its inception in 2012.
iVOW to FIGHT VAWC
This is an educational campaign to expand the definition of and awareness around violence against women and children including physical, psychological, and economic violence.
