Calling all Filipina identified women writers and artists! Call for Submissions!
LAKAS, meaning strength in Filipino, is a new zine project by GABRIELA New York about struggle and resilience, and is dedicated to uplifting the stories and deepening the discourse and analysis of Filipina identified women in the U.S. through our own words and perspective.
Theme for the 1st issue:
In honor of the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women on Nov. 25th and with the recent victory in halting NBC’s proposed comedy show “Mail Order Family”, where a widower purchases a mail order bride from the Philippines to raise his daughters, we invite all Filipina identified women writers and artists to submit work that highlights the true plight, conditions, and stories of Filipina migrant women, migration, and the Filipinx diaspora.
We’re accepting anything from poetry, to fiction and nonfiction, essays to interviews, to artwork such as drawings, comics, collages and photography. You must be a Filipina identified woman to submit work. Let us build community, and uplift our stories in our own words!
The deadline for submissions is on November 12, 2016.
Email your submissions and all inquiries to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Please include your name, email address, and website if applicable
All writing must be submitted in the following file formats: DOC, DOCX, or RTF
We accept .jpgs with an image resolution between 150-300 dpi
Maraming salamat and looking forward to hearing from you all!
